So in my book, so far after Tonya ( 10 yr.old girl) got kidnapped, beaten and brutally raped. Billy Ray Cobb and James "Pete" Willard , the white men who raped Tonya, decide to throw her into the lake. A couple hours later, she found by fisherman and put in the ICU department of the hospital . A couple days, later Sheriff Ozzie Walls finds out that they raped Tonya and arrests them. They are then put on to a preliminary hearing and the whole courthouse is basically filled with angry black people. The hearing starts and Willard and Cobb plead not guilty and ask for a bond to be set so they can pay bail and walk the streets again. But, Carl Lee Hailey ,Tonya's father, upon hearing this plots for revenge. So Carl Lee Goes to an old war friend from 'Nam to ask for a favor. His friend K.T. "Cat" Bruster gives him a rile that is illegal to have as a gift for saving his life in the war. So Lester, Carl Lee's brother, and Carl Lee drive back home. So after the bail hearing, Carl Lee takes the rifle and carefully hide in a stairwell while Lester waits outside so they could get away. As Pete and Cobb walk down the stairs with Deputy Looney Carl Lee jumps out with the M-16 and starts shooting at the rapists. As he is shooting he starts to laugh like a mad man and accidentally shoots the Deputy in the leg. Carl Lee watches closely as he shoots the rapists down until their blood mix together and drip down the stairs. Afterwards He climbs out the window and escapes with Lester.
In this chapter, the author described the scene so well you could almost picture in your mind perfectly. It is very graphic though and kind of gross but still pretty cool though. The author is very good at making the book seem as realistic as possible while keeping it at a fast pace. But, this part of the book reminds me of American Psycho, a movie about a serial killer, because of they way John Grisham detailed the murder and how Carl Lee was overcome with happiness when he got to see the two men because he knows these men will never harm anyone else ever again . This part of the book was really intense and dark. This book shows what lengths a man will go for his daughter even if in the eyes of the law it is not right.
